does anyone think there are valid reasons where a child would be better off with their father not being in their life?

Better for child to live with one parent in a happy atmosphere than both in a miserable one,for whatever reason
If the father didn't want to know the child.
Father abusive.
Father drug addict and neglectful of himself, so can't take proper interest in child.
Father prone to violence - far whatever reason.
Father heavily involved in crime - so his family is in danger.

Child is old enough to know s/he does not want contact with father.

There are countless reasons.

Thanks for your answers. I managed to get hold of an outreach worker yesterday and they are helping me build a case to get full custody, with him having no access whatsoever.
Goodsoulette - you have helped me out a lot in the past, I hope you're OK. I will say a tiny prayer for you all tonight, thinking of you.

Raysparx1 is right it's better to be happy with 1 parent than miserable with both. I grew up alone with my mum, with very little contact with my dad, I had a really happy childhood, it was really tought on my mum both financially and sometimes mentally, but it was the best for us both, and now at 28, my mum is one of my best freidns and I appreciate every little thing she did for me. x
A lot of children are better of without their father, and better with a Dad - it's a fine distinction, but an important one. I met my wife when her (our) daughters were six and four, and their father had little contact, diminsihing to nothing within twelve months. We have been married for twenty years, my older girls are thrty-one and thirty, both settled and happy.

The haven't missed their father, because they had a Dad who has done everything from mopping tears to walking them down the aisle.
Hi Goodsoulette! :o)

Do you mind telling me how you contacted the Outreach worker please? My sister, it sounds like, is in a similar situation to you...

Hope you're okay, hun xxx
