Many of these extinguishers contained a vial of concentrated sulphuric acid although I'm not claiming that dilute sulphuric acid was never used.

The SG of pure sulphuric acid is around 1.834.

Thanks Prof I do know that the SG of the sealed bottle type was chosen to ensure that it would not freeze in normal conditions, the open bottle type could possibly freeze but being open to atmosphere would not shatter the glass bottle and discharge itself. I did know the detail 40 years ago but my notes have long since disappeared.
