I understand that many dogfoods that are now manufactured have additives intended to make the dog food tasty and also added fibre to make the dog feel full and help keep the weight down. This means that much of what passes throught the dog is undigested and attractively flavoured, leading other animals to view it as a food source, so yes, squirrels might well now eat dog poo.

Forgot to mention that my dog (who is a stomach on legs) is currently on a prescribed weight reducing food. The fibre content comes from peanuts. She enjoys the food, which smells of peanuts, and it is evident that much of what she eats passes straight through. I could easily imagine a sqirrel finding it attractive...
