sorry to be a dampener, but I think perfume is such a personal thing as you have to wear it all day long, you've got to love it.
perhaps you could try perfumed body lotion instead which has a more delicate fragrance. then if your wife likes it, you could always buy her the matching perfume for a birthday/anniversary/valentines (whichever is next!)
otherwise, anything by the top brands (armani, chanel, calvin klein etc) are usually better bets than fashion brands as they tend to wear better and be less cloying. i wear escape by calvin klein and have often had comments from people saying it smells lovely.
