Lonely mum
Thanks for your replies everyone. I didn't mean to come across so prejudiced and I really didn't describe them properly. The next district is an extremely rough area that is rife with drugs and crime. So as you can imagine the women/girls that attend the groups are clad in track suits, covered in tattoo's and piercings, swear at and hit their children in public and openly smoke cannabis. I neither blend in nor would want too! Thanks for the suggestions though, I'll definitely give them a try x

Providing clear, valid suggestions is all she asked for... in my opinion...
See if you can get in touch with either the National Childbirth Trust or Meet-a-Mamma,they will be able to put you in touch with any local groups that meet up. I belonged to the NCT and it was a lifeline to me,without them I would have gone mad!

Have you tried various internet places to get things moving?
Hitched has a baby and child section which is very active and they even meet up from time to time with or without children for a get together.....

to name a couple. You may well find like minded mums in your own area who are simply looking for a bit of simple friendship. I found some of these sites invaluable in the earlier days just for friendship, especially as I was unsure about venturing into that big horrible city!!
