employers references
I've worked for the same company for 4.5yrs with no problems or disputes,I gave 2wks notice as required and left,now on wanting to return to work the manager is telling any company who writes to her for a reference that she will do it in her own time and wks later still not writing one,can anyone give me any advice as to where i stand or what i can do, i work in the care industry and without a reference she knows i can't work,as a CBR check is required,

(The only possible exceptions might be where this was written into an employee's contract or where there is an agreement between a trade union and an employer. Both of these situations would be extremely rare).
So, as far as the law is concerned, there's nothing you can do. Your only practical option might be to 'go above the manager's head' and approach her bosses.
However, CRB checks have nothing to do with employers' references, so the absence of a reference does not prevent you from obtaining a satisfactory check.
