1GB or 512mb refers to the size of the memory card - the bigger card ( 1 GB ) will hold approx twice as many pics as the smaller 512mb card - my camera has a 128mb card in it and usually takes around 100 - 120 pics to fill the card.
As for picture type M - haven't got a clue, my camera is a Kodak

Thankyou woodchopper, but on the site where I am going to purchase the camera from the 1GB card is cheaper than the 512 Mb,how can this be .

Thanks for your help.
What's the address of the site?
Doesn't matter, I think I found it.
It seems you are better off buying the 1 gig card. According to Wikipedia, the Type M is a new technology that allows manufatcure of much larger storage sizes (up to 8 Gb), but as the card in question is only 512 Mb, there's no benefit there! Also according to Wikipedia, the type M has the drawback that it is much slower at reading and writing, so, as I said, you'd be better off with the faster, cheaper, larger 1 Gig!
