Inability to read/write

My 9 year old son has speech and language difficulties and his school are fantastic and we work with all relevant agencies to support Mark. We'd like to research some background into achievers throughout the ages who struggled with reading and writing in order to demonstrate that you can still succeed. Any pointers as to where to start? Thank you
