I need help!!
This afternoon i looked through the argos book to see what kind of set up i need in order to set up my wireless network. It all seemed so straight forward. Go get what i needed plug it in and away i go.
Firstly, i dont think they have actually given me what i actually asked for but never the less have plugged it in to see how far i can get.
I asked for a BELKIN wireless router and i have been given a BELKIN wireless plus router which i dont think is any good as i am running through telewest and am using a motorola surfboard modem which does not have the facility to host a port for my main pc. Anyway next..... i have a laptop and so have plugged the router into my modem and the dongle into my laptop. The laptop is saying that it is receiving a connection signal of which is excellent from the router however i cannot connect to the Internet as the page wont display? Any answer would be much appreciate?
Thanks in advance x x

You should have a USB from router to computer and your telewest connection from wall to Router, that's all apart from roputer power source of course. With dongles it's imperative to load the software first. An ethernet cable from PC to router is all you need to bring up the router settings, with Belkin it'll probably be 192.168.2.1 or 1.1
If you have done everything exactly - turn everything off.
Turn back on in this order:
Modem. When the lights have settled down -
Router. Again wait a few seconds.
Laptop.
If you are still not connecting - reset the router by holding down the reset button.
BUT!!!!
Is your main pc turned on and connected to the modem in any way? If so, turn it off. And then follow the above.

Ok guys think this is a bit clearer now. The only thing is my main computer wont connect to the router at all as the diagram in the instructions is showing that my pc must link to an available port in the router which is fine. From there from there however, the main modem port of the router and my modem wont connect as my modem was originally connected to my PC via USB port. The modem with telewest does however have another ethernet port so if i was to go and buy another network cable would this connect me? God im so stupid? I really appreciate everyones help - Please dont get bored of me?
Ok. I had exactly the same. My desktop pc was connected to the telewest modem by USB.
I bought another ethernet cable and connected the modem to the router.
By ethernet - the pc to the router. (I had to install an ethernet card to the pc as it didn't have the ethernet port).
By ethernet (yes another one!) - laptop to router.
So now, the only connection to the modem is by ethernet to the router. That is it.
With both pc and laptop connected to the router by ethernet I was able to run the router installation set up disk in the pc - following instructions exactly. This ensured that the laptop had the same settings and would connect.
After setup, I was able to unplug the laptop and run it wirelessly.
BUT!!!
I did have to install the blueyonder installation software in my laptop. Do this first if you haven't already done so.
Good luck!

Ah. You can buy ethernet to usb cables and adaptors.
Maplins or any pc shop should sell them.
I am thinking there could be another way, though, as those cables are horribly expensive.
Have you got the main pc connected to the internet through your router? Is that working ok?
Have you installed your dongle software on the laptop?
