Probably the solution to the problem generated by the ad men, who've been telling us our life is incomplete unless we have a Widget, so we get one, and then the ad men tell us that the Widget Mark 2 goes faster, shines brighter, washes whiter, and even takes the dog for a walk.
So we take out a bank loan to buy the Mark 2, and then we find out they're developing a stereo version that is wind resistant and brings you instant happiness ... for a few dollars more.
