I haven't had an electric oven for years but they used to have a seperate thin tube inside the oven, to the rear. If this has failed it may well explain why the element is not heating.

I would say the thermostat as well. It regulates the temperature, so if you set it to 200 degrees, it will switch the element off when it reaches that temperature and back on again if the temperature dips too low below 200 degrees. If the thermostat is faulty, it can switch the element off at a very low temperature irrespective of the setting on the dial..
Hi Clemmie - my electric fan oven has a cut of switch which is activated when the oven door opens. Mine sometimes plays up and the oven switches off so I have to push he door a little to get the switch to activate again. You may have a similar problem or your switch may be completly broken hence the oven thinks the door is open when it isn't. There is a small amount of adjustment on the actuator on mine. Have a look on the iniside of the door and see if you can see a plunger actuator. If so make sure it is making contact with the switch. Hope this helps and you get it sorted. jay.
