Thanks 'K' even I thought it must be 'Stoves in' I don't do xwords but thats what Mr elderly's letters looked like!!!
1d Caddyss = ribbon or braid (Shakespeare)
Word play = CADDY (sporter) + S (short) + S (bit os silk)

24a Did you spot SNIPE hidden in reverse order in the section keep inside ...?
