Island on the way to US
I dont remember where I heard this or if I've got the details right. Anyway, apparently there is an island in the Atlantic ocean which is inhabited by a group of English that were on their way to America 200 or so years ago. They mistook this island for America and settled. They all speak in Shakespearean Engish and wear fashions from 200 years ago to this day. Is this story a load of rubbish or true? It wouldnt surprise me if it was an urban myth, but I hope it's true...

When I read the question, I thought of St Pierre et Miquelon, which is a small pair of islands just off the coast of Canada, and which is an overseas departement of France (i.e. technically an integral part of France). I think they sort of speak an old-fashioned version of French. Maybe that's what you were thinking of. (Population 6000, area 93 square miles)
