You could also perhaps consider the Hoek van Holland - Harwich crossing as an alternative to the Channel Tunnel and the need to get round London.

I'd look at driving to Rotterdam from Dortmund - Just 155 Miles - and getting the overnight Ferry with a small cabin to Hull and cutting down on your driving hours and mileage. As Newcastle is only two hours from Hull - 140 Miles.
Dortmund to Calais - 267 Miles - Just under 4 hours
Dover to Newcastle - 343 MIles Approx - 4 and a half hours.
8 Hours in total
You would feel a lot better when oyu get there and a lot less driving.

almcd007.........are you seriously suggesting driving 610 miles in 8 hours? That's an unbelievable, illegal, and highly dangerous AVERAGE speed of over 76mph.
May I suggest that 12 hours would be closer to the mark plus whatever length of time it takes to get from France to England.
I was surprised that my Autoroute suggested total time for the journey to be 30 hours but that included decent rest periods and travelling through the tunnel.
