We have had an outbreak of gastric flu in the family that has passed from one to the other in the past week. My son seemed to be better and was eating dry biscuits milk and toast ok for a couple of days but yesterday I gave him pasta(without the sauce) and he was sick in the night again. We are all drinking water but can anybody advise me about diet.. Also I am disinfecting the house like mad as this illness is driving us mad, does anyone have any tips on this...

Thanks

I believe the golden rule is no dairy products so milk should not be taken for 48 hours,it feeds the bug.Water and fruit drinks are fine ,toast,no butter but marmite gives a bit of flavour, jelly is nice.If it keeps flaring up best to see your doctor.
Lucyd, As patsyann say's,no dairy products as they cause a build of phleghm. Try a cuppa soup or a dissolved oxo cube drink. Cream cracker's are also good as they're bland, maybe with some marmite. Plenty of fluid's. Daisy.
How long does this flu last?
Its been rife where I live nat, Some are still feeling the effect's of it after 3 weeks and more. Touching wood,we have'nt caught it! Daisy.

It seems to spread very easily and where we live its impossible to get a doctor to come out consequently you are forced to take it to the surgery and everyone else is at risk of catching it.. and so it goes on.... I am sure we caught it from the doctors surgey my daughter went there for something routine and two days later she was extremelly ill with gastric flu... Since then it has passed from one family member to another..
Same here in Cardiff Lucy. I was at the surgery last week and there was a young mum with her little mites and they were absolutely full up with this gastric flu. The younger one was sick and crying, the older child was crying and their poor mum was at her wits end. She told us she'd asked for a house call but was told "Doctor is too busy, you must bring the children to the surgery". Im sure if it was their kids they would'nt have to go to the surgery! Daisy

Yes I think it's the same everywhere now doctors don't do home visits anymore and it takes days here to even get an appointment at the surgery... If you are ill you have to try to learn to deal with it yourself.. When we are all we all want to take precautions to stop it spreading but due to the system we are unable to.. How stupid it all is, it must cost the NHS far more money in the long run...
