A few years ago I read an obituary of a brilliant American linguist who was able to pick up languages spoken by remote Pacifc islanders and could converse witt them im a very short time.
Can anybody put a name to this man?

One of the outstanding authorities on South Pacific linguistics of the last century was G. B. MiIlner, but I believe he was English...

Thanks for your response. I could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure then person was American. However , G.B.Milner deserves an item in Wikipedia but I've not yet found out much about him and his life.
