Please can anyone help with the following questions, which have me totally baffled. I have "googled" and "asked Jeeves" without success.
1. Which musical instrument made the noise that so thrilled the ear ?
2. Which poet, in which poem, thought that music one hadn't heard was preferable to that which one had ?
3. Who, in a poem, were relieved to hear the sound of bagpipes ?
4. What was the title of the song sung in poverty, hunger and squalor ?
5. What was the title of the 1959 novel taken from a West Indian calypso ?

Thank you kev100 and slaney, but, you, Spotty Dog are out of order. For your information, I have had both quizzes for more than 3 weeks and have expended much effort to complete all 150 questions on one and aproximately 130 on the other. So how much harder do you want me to try ? And, I am using the Answer Bank for precisely the purpose that is intended. How far away the closing date is NOT a consideration, and what, then, is a real quizzer ? I very much count myself as one .
1.W H Auden
O what is that sound which so thrills the ear
Down in the valley drumming drumming?
Only the scarlet soldiers, dear
The soldiers coming.
3. Haven't got this ,but perhaps something like the relief of the siege of Lucknor ,or some other siege where the bagpipes were played by the relieving forces.
