Ruined Jacket by Hairdressing Salon
Hi - my brand new jacket that I bought in the sales was ruined on Friday by bleach in a salon. I was not given an apron but covered by a towel around my shoulders. Rang Salon who said they would reimburse me the cost of my jacket. Problem is the jacket has been sold out & even if they could get me one it would not be at the sale price. Where do I stand with the Hairdressing Salon, as none of this is my fault! ?

I got the jacket in the sale for 10 reduced from 50 (1st time I have ever managed to get a bargain!) & they have said they will ring around their branches for me but I would have to pay the 50 as the sale is over. What do I do if the Salon will only reimburse me the 10 (I will be taking my receipt to them tomorrow). I feel its unfair as I would like the jacket replaced & they should have to pay the full amount (if one can be found) & then what happens if there are none left - where do I stand? - or am I being unreasonable? I think I might post this under the law site just to see if I have any rights.
Hi everyone - thanks for responding.
missjeff - The point is I did not go in there to have my hair bleached. It was my first visit, I was plonked in a seat, a towel was put around my shoulders & was told highlights would look good. I am no expert in hair hence going to the salon.
lindapinda - everyone has told me that other salon's always use aprons. Lesson learnt - could have been worse my hair could have fallen out!! I just tend to trust professionals in all walks of life to know what they are meant to be doing. Same as if people come to me at work I know what I am meant to be doing.
I hate confrontation but am going into the salon later on this morning so fingers crossed I don't get yelled at!!

Hi everyone - update: went to salon, told to take a seat, kept waiting 25 minutes, took into the back, showed them the jacket & receipt. Pointed out the 4 different places the bleach had hit & was told I could have 15.00 for the jacket & it was not their fault the sale was over. I got no apology for the damage or being kept waiting, infact they really were not bothered. I cannot believe that people like that exist that just don't care. I could understand if I had gone in guns blazing (not my nature) but I told them I fully understand that mistakes happen & it was one of those things - but I was dismissed. Lesson learnt never to go there again. At least its over - phew! Thanks again for everyone's help - much appreciated. Merry Xmas.
