Wii delay
8 Answers
Has anyone else pre-ordered a Wii only to be told that due to a European shortage they will now not be able to fulfill the pre-order on the release date? - apparently more will be available before Christmas, but remains to be seen. Why do these manufacturers do this? this has been years in the making and then they mess up the release date which in itself has been put back several times. Do they think they are generating more interest in the product by doing this? Personally I think they alienate more people than create interest.

Nintendo plan to have 4 million consoles shipped before Christmas. This is more than any other console launch in history.
When the PS3 is launched Japan will initially only have 100,000 units and the US 400,000, though I read recently that the Japan numbers are to be cut by 20%.
On launch day of the PS2 Japan had 900,000 to go around and the US 400,000.
You wanna talk alienation then you should take a look at what Sony is doing and not just with the PS3.

Release dates are very annoying and there are many excuses given.
Because European sales of game consoles are fairly low compared to the USA & Japan we always get the rough end of the deal (i.e. PS3 not released this year).
They will send less to the UK so not to upset the larger target audiences.
It's down to manufacturers making too high a commitment, that they will never be able to meet. I wanted a Wii for my son this Christmas but decided against for this reason.

that's the spiel I got from Play.com on the date of my original post. We preordered some games for the Wii at the same time and unbelievably they have already posted one to us, knowing full well we haven't got a console to play it on! and they can't tell us when we will get one - luckily it's not for a xmas pressie.
