Attracted deer

Why are deer so particularly attracted to the willow tree (Salix), to the extent that they are planted as "sacrifices" on the edge of commercial woodland to protect other species?

Hi barrowman,
I think it's because deer generaly prefere the taste of willow, rather than other commercial tree species and therefore give an alternative foot source on which to browse.
