took my 2 year old grandson to doctors tonight cos he has a nasty cough and cold. He has a temperature and ear infection as it turns out. He has antibiotics and calpol, but my daughter asked me whether she should wrap him up warmly or leave him dressed lightly in order to reduce the temperature - i dont know the answer! please can someone guide us?
i have to disagree with wired im afraid, I would say dress lightly to keep the temperature down.Wrappping them up warm will just make them hotter. This is what i have always done when my sons have had temperatures.
I'd have to agree with unruliejulie. Whenever my kids have had temperatures, doctors have always told me to keep them cool. Maybe just put a thin sheet over them to stop drafts. The calpol should keep the temperature down, but you can also use kids nurofen at the same time because they're not both paracetamol obviously. If he still gets too hot, then just sponge him down with tepid water.
yeh, im with jules................ my son and daughter have got this bug at the mo, we are at the end of it i think now but my little girl still has a poorly tummy!!
as taz says, you can use nurofen (calpol do one) as long as hes not allergic.
My 17 month old son has same symtoms at the moment and we are having to alternate the calpol and nurofen to keep his temp down. If we give him alternate doses of each every 3 hours he is more comfortable.
Keep his clothes loose and cool but if he starts to shiver then obviously add further layers.
You need to keep him cool to bring his temperature down ( if it goes up too high they are often sick so keep a bucket handy!). Light covering, no pj's, fresh air and an ice lolly to suck . When my son had a temp of 104 casualty did all of this and put a fan on him too. Hope he feels better soon. x
