As long as your cat isn't actually smelling, then it must be that. I've used different litters and the only one I like is the Costcutter lightweight one-some of the 'clumping types'are so difficult to clean out.I still completely change it evey couple of days, and I don't think the house smells.
You could always try one of those plug -in odour things in the same room as the litter tray.

I have 12 cats and visitors are always surprised that there's no smell when they come into my house. Cats never ever smell unless they're un-nuetered and are spraying/marking their territories or as has already been said the litter tray either needs changing more often or better litter used. Catsan is expensive but in the long run it actually works out cheaper as its far more effective with regards to odour control, absorbency and easier to handle(with a shuvvle of course!). Having said all that a friend of mine's cat has very strong smelling urine (ammonia smell) which apparently is due to kidney problems. Im sure you dont need to go as far as getting rid of him for a problem that can be easily solved. Would you actually do that?
