missing pound

Three men book a room for the night costing �30, so they all pay �10 each. After about half hour later the manager relized that the men have been over charged by �5, so he tells the bellboy to take the five pound coins back up to the gentlemen.The bellboy was not to pleased about going back up on the lift has they never tipped him, so he thought he would only give them back �1 each and put �2 in his own pocket.
So they all paid �9 that makes �27 plus �2 in the bellboys pocket thats �29 ....! So where did the other �1 go?

At first sight, what you say is quite plausible until you realise that 3x9=27, less 2 in the pocket =25 which it what the hotel got for the stay.

On a similar vein, how many fingers and thumbs have you got? 'Ten' I hear you cry, 'No' I reply, 'you've got eleven!' 'Look, spread them out, Ten, nine,eight, seven, six' I count off one hand - 'and five' ( digits on the other ) 'make eleven!'
