Thanks Crofter - good to see someone else burning the midnight oil! 'Stook' is not a word I'm familiar with.
Just getting ready for tomorrow's Herculis analysis!

STOOK. It's a real rustic word. After the corn is gathered in sheaves, they stand together in a stook!

My Chambers Crossword Completer lists only seven words that fit your pattern: Athos, ethos, stood, stook, stool, stoop and strop. It would make a good stocking filler!
