I have put NYE
According to Chambers "Nie" is an obsolete spelling of Nigh.
I have put "Nye" which is a variant of Nid or Nide meaning a pheasant's nest (from latin Nidus .. nest).

OK, but wie?
... should have said meaning: pheasant's nest or brood.
Question Author
Sorry, sarumite, my question was meant for hardy49.
Question Author
Thanks, sarumite. I'm going for NYE too, although I got lots of nies on Google.
Did you notice that the solution given for last week's heraldic question was GYRON without any option?
........... must admit that I seldom check solutions, mainly because I have forgotten the pattern of my entries by time they are published. Probably another sign of advancing years !
