Are there any people out there that work in the restaurant/hotel business? I'm so hacked off today. We had a local office Christmas party here and they were the rudest most miserable bunch ever! Don't people realise that we work all over Christmas to ensure they have a great time... often missing any real time with our family.. Just a polite thank you or a smile makes all the difference. And don't for one minute think we get paid anymore over the festive period cos we don't! And we can never take a holiday at 'peak' times so we can make sure your holidays are great!!!!
Sorry people I'm just so hacked off

They treat shop workers and waitresses like slaves because they expect the best service, they rarely tip in this country, and you get paid crappy wages to work 20 times physically harder in one night than they will do in the whole of their office working career.
People always go on about the Brits never complaining but I find they find it hard to complain when the service has been terrible, its when they get a nice meak friendly person serving them that they lay into them. Brits complain and whinge and are rude all the time, they just do it in the worst way.
I hope xmas goes by quickly for you.

Not my trade sleeveless and Goodsoulette but you have my sympathy. I have seen so many bad things in shops. restaurants it is embarrassing. Brits are the worst at complaining and most are very devious about they go about it.
On a different tact though. You have to appreciate that people expect a standard of service (of which you are aware I am sure and don't wish to sound patronizing). If things fall below expectations then people will complain, even if it doesn't apply to the majority. Unfortunately, peer pressure can also be instrumental.

Having worked in pubs/hotels and shops, I'm always polite to the waiters/waitresses and shop workers ( in fact I'm always polite to everyone, it costs nothing) I appreciate all they do for me as I've been there, done that myself. Nothing annoys me more than bad manners and what used to annoy me most was men who used to whistle when they wanted your attention! RRR! I would purposely ignore them until they realised it was having no effect and they chose to speak properly, then when they said 'didn't you hear me?' I'd say 'sorry, I thought you'd lost your dog'
