where is the emblem or badge used for? And what is the history of emblem or badge ?

I think that emblems began as a means of identifying soliders in battle. In the heat of a fight, everyone looks alike, so it makes sense to identify your own side before you start hacking about willy-nilly. This extended to the days of armour - everyone looks alike, so the idea of coats of arms on sheilds, and coloured plumes on helmets extended the identification process.
