Routing Code

What is a ROUTING CODE in banking transactions? If it applies to individual customers, how can the account holder obtain this code without actually visiting his bank?
I wish to transfer some money overseas, as I have done over the years, but have never been asked to supply a Routing Code.

dzug, is right, its the US equivalent of the UK sort code. It's sometimes called the ABA number or BSB number in Australia.

Do not confuse it with the IBAN number, thats for European (and UK) transactions only.

It can replace the SWIFT code though.

Both ans are partly correct - the ROUTING Code is you SWIFT Code in the UK also known as a BIC (Bank Identifier Code)
