I have conducted a SWOT anaylysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) for Sainsbury's, however seem to be lacking in the 'weaknesses' section. I have many threats (to do with competitors and the external environment), but have found it hard without access to much information to find weaknesses within the actual company itself. Does anyone have any ideas?
what about the threat of Sainsburys having to reduce their staff due to the popularity of online shopping, surely a worry for all the checkout boys and girls as more people are buying their food (and other goods of course) on line. This would be bad puplicity for them. The are also threatened by consumer terrorism i.e people putting glass in food. This may have been mentioned when you wrote about the environment but the foot and mouth outbreak a few years ago had severe damaging effect on all supermarkets. - hope this helps.
These are yet more threats - weaknesses are internally-focused.
What about lack of consumer buying habits/trends? - Tescos gets this info from its Clubcard data. Sainsbury uses Nectar which it doesn't own/operate (as far as I know). Makes it harder to know what customer types buy what products. Just a thought.
Without doing the work for you, how about some factors to do with any of the following?; store layout, sites, supplier base, cost structure, wage structure, staff morale, customer complaints, customer service policy, age profile of stores, management philosophy, brand identity, eg target customer base. (The nectar card one is a good one)
