Flapping over a cat flap!
6 Answers
I wish to fit a cat flap in my door, but I want one that won't let the cats of the neighbourhood in, only mine
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Another thing - my cat is twelve years old and has never used a cat flap before. Is this likely to cause any problems?

Hi compman
We fitted a magnetic flap (Staywell) after having problems with other cats coming in and wrecking the house!! Our cat always seemed to come off the worse! She was about 5 when we fitted it and she took to it brilliantly. Cats pick up using new things so quickly.
Make sure you have spare magnets for the collar though as my cat has lost quite a few over the years. I always keep a spare in the house just in case.
Good luck with your new flap :o)

i had my cat for nearly 3 years before i fitted a cat flap. he used to sit at the front door and meow to get out. it took about a month before he used the cat flap himself. i took the magnet off so it was a bit easier for him to open to get in/out. once he was used to it, i put the magnet back on. now there's no stopping him! he's in and out like a yo-yo! a little treat at either side might help temp him into using it too.... good luck
Thanks for all your replies. I have taken the plunge and purchased a Staywell magnetic cat flap from my local Argos store. I will fit it as soon as I find my electric jigsaw!
Incidentally, the price at Argos, 19.99, was between 9 and 12 cheaper than I could buy on the net, and that excludes carriage charges.
Thanks again for your advice and encouragement - I suppose I will find out in the next few weeks if I did the right thing!!
