I want to place the main UK supermarkets in some sort of order based on perceived quality and high/low prices for something I am doing. There's a few in the middle I am not sure about. The four are ASDA, Morrisons, Tesco and Somerfield. I don't have an ASDA or Morrisons near me, so don't know where they try and position themselves. So...could you place those four in order, with the one with highest prices (and maybe perceived highest quality?) at the top, and lowest prices at the bottom? For example my probably completely wrong guess would be:
As Somerfield are a smaller concern than the other 3 I don't think they have the buying power and their prices are not cheaper in fact I think they are more expensive because of the above reason. It is difficult to place the other 3 as they all have loss leaders and what may be more expensive in one of them will be cheaper in one or more of the others plus they all compare prices so are pretty much of a muchness in my book. I shop at Morrisons although I used to shop at Tesco (I stopped shopping at Tesco because I kept finding goods out of date on the shelves) The nearest Asda is not that near and the only Somerfield is attached to a petrol station so not big enough for a weekly shop. If I was to be snobby about it (and I wouldn't) I would probably put Asda at the lower end of the scale for quality purely by the type of people who shop in my nearest one and for no other reason. Hope this helps:)
Hi, like jules said you can't really put them in a particular order for price and quality as one product at one shop will cost less in another shop and vice versa, but where the market is concerned, Tesco is at the top of it and claims the bulk percentage of it. I'm not sure f that helps you at all?
I agree with loukr. It`s virtualy impossible to put them in order re price. It would also depend on what you bought every week. If you`re shopping for a family you`d be looking for different things than I would in shopping for 2. I do find Sommerfield is dearer than Tesco in our town though. I don`t like Asda & never been in a Morrisons.
