Both are experienced in the polishing of surfaces, A circular application of an abrasive would lead to micro-cutting, but linear application ( polishing a walking stick for example ) would result in micro-ploughed type grooves. Micro-ploughing could be better for lubication and micro-cutting could give more resistance to lateral breakage.
