How is dna tested
7 Answers
If someone was being dna tested to see who a child belonged to how do they go about this? Is it blood or swabs from the mouth?
Does the child get tested and the apparent parents?
Call me stupid!!

If the conventional tests do not provide an answer a DNA Paternity test can prove whether or not there is a genetic relationship.
The test will either:
- prove 100 per cent that an alleged parent is NOT a parent of the child; or
- show a 99.99 per cent probability that they ARE a parent of the child
In recent years it has become common practice to take DNA sampling using mouth swabs, than blood testing. This obviously makes the process easier and quicker than in the past when you had to take a blood sample although it can still take up to 2 hours to take a DNA testing sample - even with mouth swabs.
Needless to say, swabs are needed from the baby and the father and they must be consensual unless court directed.
