Meade ETX-70AT telescope

I have just bought one for these for someone who is new to star-gazing but keen to develop. I know nothing about telescopes (apart from the info I received from the guy in the shop and the responses from ABers who replied to a previous question) so what I am keen to know is - is this a good enough make and model for what I'm after?

Meade make good telescopes, acromatic lenses etc.

Looks like the 70 is end of line now so I'd assume you got a bit of a discount

But I wouldn't fret about it the important thing is that it's a good quality usable telescope that'll give years of use
