black angel

I am an artist and one of my paintings is of a black angel. My friends told me, there are no black angels. Anyone out there who, like me, believes that there MUST be black angels, or do all African people see their angels WHITE?

I'm not sure angels have race or nationality, but other artists have portrayed them as black, so why shouldn't you?

we have a black snowman that goes on the tree every year. Angels/god are how you see them - pretty sure Jesus would not have been as white as he's usually portrayed given where he lived!

Hi Crystabel - we often go to Poland and the Czech Republic where there are statues of black Madonna and Child.

No reason why there shouldn't be black angels and I am sure there are.

Thank you mightywease. I have never been to Poland or chekoslowakia (I spelled it in german,I think) but I have polish friends and visited Slowenia, when it was still Jugoslavia. So fantastic there. Unfortunately, I did not paint in those days and did not take much notice if anything was black or white. Even though, I am German, born in the war, my mum brought me up with the knowledge, that we are all equal, no matter which colour.So, had I seen black angels or a black madonna, it would have been NORMAL to me.
