For proper meat and veg you can't beat a...butcher and a ....greengrocer. I'm not taking the mickey-it's way better than anything you're going to get in the supermarket.
You could see if there is a farmers market near you this week
For veg, try Lidl on a Monday or Thursday when it's just come in. You'll be surprised at the quality - and the low prices!
I agree teag1rl. You can`t beat local shops for quality & freshness. You will also get the cuts of meat you want.
I agree with the greengrocers and the butchers, though here in the north west we have a very good supermarket chain, Booths, which I would recommend to anyone close enough to get to one. Waitrose have very good quality food, though they are definitely more expensive than Asda. As crete said, you can't really go wrong with M&S, though again you'll pay for it.

thanks for that.
I am going to try the butchers, its funny because when i was thinking of where to go i was only thinking of supermarkets i suppose because its easy and convenient.
it's Morrisons for me! Their Meat n Veg is usually always well presented , and keeps well.
xmas only, we go to Waitrose or Marks for the posh stuff & treats and back to good old Asda for the cornflakes etc
