Gay Divorces

Now that we have gay weddings what will happen if the couple unfortunatly want to split up and can they have more than one partner

We don't have 'gay weddings' we have a civil ceremony which will not require a 'divorce' as such.

So what will happen if a couple wish to seperate. Will they need to dissolve the partnership if they wish to form a different partnership

As far as I understand there will be a 'divorce' procedure which will also involve splitting stuff up between the folks. I think you also have to stick it out for a year like marriage if it all goes wrong on the civil partnership night and you find out you've civilly partnered the wrong person.

I don't think you would be allowed to... erm... civil partnerise more than one person. It's just marriage with a different name (and a really difficult one to use as a verb).

It's called a dissolution - these are the criteria;

Unreasonable behaviour, that is behaviour such that the applicant cannot reasonably be expected to live with their civil partner:

Separation for two years, where the other civil partner consents to a dissolution order being made;

Separation for five years, where the other civil partner does not consent to a dissolution order being made;

That the other civil partner has deserted the applicant for a period of two years prior to the application

I think there's some uproar that infidelity isn't on there or something.

I don't know what they will say when it gets to that "Unfortunately it didn't work out so we're getting dissolved" ??

You can only have a civil partnership with one person at any one time - they're gay, not mormons ;o)

Dissolution is the term used to describe the termination of a civil partnership. Dissolution is a procedure similar to divorce. To get a dissolution you must have been in a civil partnership for more than one year. You must complete a form called a �Petition�, giving the reasons why you are applying, to show your civil partnership is definitely over- i.e. that it has �irretrievably broken down� and one of three facts can be used to prove this:

i)Unreasonable behaviour
ii)Two years separation, and he consent of the other partner
iii)Five years separation

If there are children of the family you should also complete a form called a �statement of arrangements� in which you tell the court what plans you have made for the children once the dissolution is final.

If dissolution is granted then the relationship is dissolved.
