Try typing the following in to the address bar:
http://192.168.1.1/
Then go through the points in this:
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/support/wi reless_secure.htm
The minimum is to change the admin page name and password, the SSID name and disable broadcast, and set WEP, but WPA is better.
If you do it without being connected by cable, you may block your own access!
Find the reset button on the router so if it goes pearshaped you can reset the default settings.
Make a note of all your passwords and settings.
When you are familiar with the admin page you can set your MAC filters.

In the passphrase box type in a password (make a written note of this)
Then click 'generate'
This will then give you the WEP key - usually a random selection of letters and numbers. WRITE THIS DOWN
Whenever you try to access your wireless connection and are asked for the network key - this is the code you must use.

Ethel, I think you'll find the URL you provided to access the router is incorrect. I've tried it on mine and it doesn't work.
My Belkin router can be accessed on:

I have a belkin router and like you, after I'd set it up I wanted to ensure it was secure. I too had some trouble so I got on the phone and used thier 24/7 helpline. (I would suggest calling them during silent hours to prevent waiting in a queue). That way they can talk you through the process page by page. It's only then you realise how easy it is. (knowledge is power eh!).
