You learn to be part of a team etc, and it has been proven that physical exercise reduces stress, depression and promotes (obviously) a healthy lifestyle. It helps with peer assessment and social skills, and many students who don't get on well in "academic" areas can find that they are good at some area of sport... hope this helps?
depends if you are studying it at GCSE level at KS4 where you learn alot about physiology and biology. You also have to select some sports (a very wide range) to investigate. There is a great deal of emphasis on fitness and wellbeing these days. Kids at our school have to do bleep tests to see how fit they are. They also participate in step, yoga, trampolining etc. It's not just about playing games. Then there's Outdoor Ed of course which is related to PE - this includes dry slope skiing, rock climbing, bridge building etc. And I am not a PE teacher but that's what I have seen in our PE department!
