Change from mate to more ? bad idea?
8 Answers
I went to a xmas party at my friends house 2 nights ago and met up with loads of people i hadn't seen for ages which was very cool. Anyway, all of a sudden someone else turned up who i used to work with until 4 yrs ago and it was crazy seeing each other. We kinda went our own ways back then and lost touch, as you do. When we saw each other he hugged me for literally five mins or so. Then he pulled me into the kitchen to catch up and we just chatted for much of the whole night.
We were always mates and worked on our own so were close but i kinda saw him as a brother/mate type.... oh dear, you guessed, until 2 nights ago. Don't know what happened there but i come away thinking god i really like him now.
Anyway i am waffling but i cant talk to my mates about it cos they will tell him and i dont wanna lose any friendship by being all 'ooh i like him'-ish but do ya reckon its a bad thing by moving that friendship level onto something else, even after knowing each other for some yrs.
BTW he was flirtiing quite badly with me and said 'have you missed me?' to which i said 'course' (in a cheeky way) and he leant forward and said 'good, cos i have missed you loads'. i almost peed my pants haha!
god i am stoopid today cos i have lots of male friends (in a mate way) and never ever crossed the line from mates to more than mates. thats why i am waffling like a crazy woman as foreign territory to me
Advice...for the pathetic girlie freak here!

I am just very aware that i wont be able to go into meeting up as mates as instantly knew i liked him differently now.
i guess i will just meet for a beer as mates and just flirt haha.. see what happens. if not i shall just pretend i have turned into a pervert since he last met me. haha..

Cor , how exciting! It reminded me of a very simular situation between myself and a guy I'd been really good friends with for many many years. I moved away from the area that we both lived in and shortly after he moved away too (we were both in relationships with other people at the time too). Anyway, several years passed and I went back to the old area to visit some old friends at christmas 89, went to a party and who should be there (also just visiting for christmas) but my very good friend and we were both over the moon to see eachother again. Everyone else at the party seemed to fade away and we spent the night catching up on eachothers news (including the news that we had both separated from our respective partners some 6 mths before) I knew by the time we said 'Goodnight' that night and had arranged to meet up the following day in town, that the feelings of friendship had certainly changed into something more. We met up the following day and here we are 18 yrs later and still together. I dont think there can be a better basis for a relationship than to know eachother really well as friends first. Best of Luck to you. Fate has brought you together again,Go for it.
