Insurance company repairs have to be done to standard with all new parts and if the estimate is more than 60% of it's value it's most often written off.
It's beyond economic repair.
That still leaves quite a bit of scope for someone to do a quite satisfactory repair and make it worth while.

http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/ application;JSESSIONID_EvlPortalApp=FTG3RLVgth hWxD1M4y9np2pFLZp0xL3fhHfddfPYZpGsNQdhvcF9!-40 7040202?origin=vehicleEnquiryInfo_en.jsp&event =bea.portal.framework.internal.portlet.event&p ageid=Vehicle+Enquiry&portletid=VehicleEnquiry &portletns=VehicleEnquiry_en&wfevent=link.next
It shows the 'date of liability' which if it is in the future, obviously the vehicle is taxed and therefore likely to be in use.
If the link doesn't work, go to www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk and click 'Vehicle Enquiry'.
