I think the idea was scrapped a few years ago due to lack of funding.

as i always say remember that wikipedia is written by the gen public so may not be 100% true.

a red dwarf movie would be good but very unlikely now.they should have gone for it when it was still running on tv.

...the thing about Wikipedia is you can decide for yourself how truthful/accurate an entry is by judicious use of the References and External Links at the bottom of the page.

As for plans to make a film, they did go for it (and failed) numerous times.

I hope they don't make a Red Dwarf feature film.

The lack of an audience laughing ALWAYS makes comedy programs -> feature films very bad.

Both very funny... but the lack of audience participation detracted from the sense of mass humour.

This is the first occasion that I have encountered an argument for "canned laughter".

I personally find that audience participation placed on staged comedy (i.e. storyboarded scenes) detracts from the whole experience as I certainly do not require a prompt when to find something is humorous.

it was due to be filmed in australia, but due to craig charles rape allegations was put on hold, as he obviously had to be in the uk for it
