Daft question - but.... cat and new fridge freezer!!
12 Answers
Okay - we have just moved into this house 11 days ago and treated ourselves to a brand new American style chrome fridge i love it ...but so does one of our cats!!. The pair of them(mother and daughter) have always slept on either the sofa or their cat beds, but for some odd reason the youngest one has decided that she has to sleep on top of this 700 fridge freezer!!!! She only has to slip once getting down off it and we will have claw marks down the thing which will wreck it.I have tried putting thing on top to make it awkward to get on,but she just knocks them off.The other cat isn't the least bit interested in it.Any ideas??

She wouldn't normally have her claws out to jump down off the top. Mind you it won't wreck the fridge if she does scratch it - it will still work! That's the price you have to pay for having animals. My dog chewed a bit of skirting board when he was a puppy and the cat uses one of our antique pews as a scratching post - but what the heck - I love them both and wouldn't be without them. By the way how does she jump up there in the first place? You may have to keep lifting her down and show your disapproval by the tone of your voice she may soon get the message!
lol good luck PinkFizz, mine always want to sleep in silly place too. One of them sounds just like yours, if I put things on top of something he just sweeps it all off lol
This is his favourite sleeping place at the moment

(though he also likes the top of the fridge, top of cupboards, top of the door lol or on my knee if I'm trying to go to the loo)

mycats - your cat has the perfect 'innocent looking' face.
you are lucky in that your cat wants to sleep on your f/f Pinkfizz - during the really hot summer my cat was opening my freezer door and lying in beside it - all nice and cool.
I suppose, realistically, there is no easy way to stop your cat sleeping where it wants. Just use the usual deterrants - barbed wire, bad smells, water pistol - electrify the outside of the fridge freezer and give her a shock - the last one is pretty tempting.

Well, i have many kitties(i do cat rescue) and i have found that they like to sleep where ever they darned well please. I have a couple that do find the top of the fridge appealing. I believe the top of the fridge gets warm and cats love to sleep where it is warm. It may also have something to do with the newness of the fridge and cats being curious and all. She has found herself a new place and she is Queen of the castle up there, and they do like to be up high.
Cats are territorial and each one usually has it's favorite place to sleep or lounge. MY cats use the counter beside the fridge to jump up and down, in fact i have a big basket with a blankie in it for them up there. I have noticed no scratches(although my wooden entertainment center is another matter). I plan on getting some "Ssscat spray"
it is a harmless can of air that you put where you do not want your cat to go and the spray device detects your cats movements up to one meter away and will emit a neutral blast of hissing air that your cat will not like and soon will alter it's behavior to avoid that particular area. I need quite a few of these myself. There are some i have found that will also emit a loud horn type noise along with the air, which might not be good for when YOU are sleeping in the middle of the night to be awakened by the noise. They are about $50 each can and refills about $15. not cheap, but neither was you lovely new fridge. I might try the lemon idea too(cheaper) although i wouldn't be surprised to find my cats sucking on them, my cat follow none of the general cat behaviors or rules. They are unto themselves a force of nature to be reckoned with and I just their human slave. Gotta love em' though. The Ssscat spray can be found at, thecatconnection.com
