Cleaning dolls faces

Hi, having bought a new doll last year , and having attended a few of my 6 year olds dolls parties lately. I've realised that the Baby born dolls (handed down from 15 year old sister) that still frequent the pass the parcel circles are looking rather dirty compared to the new ones. Given that there will soon be another new doll coming I thought I'd try and help out the old ones. I've tried soap, washing up liquid and powder, but it seems like some miracle chemical is need to brighten them up and remove some pen etc. Any ideas anyone? Anyone had any success?

Nail varnish remover is worth a try, but wash dollys face afterwards :(
