motorway law
My husband says that if you are in the middle lane and travelling faster than the car in front and the inside lane is clear you can go back into the inside lane and undertake it. I disagree and say that at all times you have to go to the outside lane and overtake and then pull back in. Please sort out our ongoing argument before i go mad! Thanks

So if you were in the inside lane and came accross one of those idiots dong 50 in the middle lane you theorectically could keep going. However you are then technically undertaking and could get pulled over and ticketed. So its best just to overtake and hope one day the middle lane dawdler gets a police officer setting them right.
furrycheeky, section 242 of the Highway Code says that passing on the left should only be done in congested conditions.

Unfortunately it is against the law. If the police would do something about the idiots hogging the middle lane then there wouldn't be an issue. By hogging the middle lane they are taking up two lanes of the motorway, causing congestion. I do undertake if I think it's safe, if nothing else to try and make a point the idiot in the middle lane.Police keep banging on about about speeding and yet usually turn a blind eye to these lane hoggers and people driving 6 inches from your back bumper. If there are any police reading this, then get off your arse and get it sorted!
