It was covered by Harry Nilsson and released as a single - a successful one at that.
It has been covered many times since - including the annoying Mariah Carey.
The writers of the song Peter Ham and Tom Evans of Badfinger both commited suicide. Peter's brother, Brian Ham used to run a music shop in Swansea's Walters Road until fairly recently.
