Picking up on the "unknown" bit of the second clue, I have found references to a Y-TREE, which would fit. Please excuse the fact that I originally omitted to include the letters I already have, which are _ - _ R _ E

If correct, that leaves the answer to the 1st clue looking like CHRISTMAS DAYS?
