you would be better off putting this in the travel section
I would have though that they are too cold for much sightseeing in winter. I went many years ago (when it was the USSR) in June. It wasn't too hot and we had the advantage of light (and I mean light - especially in Leningrad) nights!
Never. it's Russia, it's a shlt hole.
My son and I went in January, also when it was the USSR. It WAS very cold. we had two nights in Leningrad, and three in Moscow. Which was no where nearly enough time. There is really a lot to see, and I found it ok, and the people very nice and helpful. Being ex Merchant Navy, and going all over Europe with the TAVR, I found it exciting, and would love to go again, through my age and disability, I shall not be able. Please! GO THERE it is worth it.
I was in Moscow a couple of times in late April and it was really warm and sunny better than London at that particular time but I have to say not the most friendly place in the world!
this time of year in St Petersburg it gets light about 10am and dark about 2pm, so the days are pretty short - not the best for sightseeing. In midsummer it gets darkish for a similar number of hours at night, which is much better, though you have to force yourself to fall asleep. Moscow is not quite so extreme but similar. It also gets very cold indeed in both in winter; summers are hot but not at all unbearable. I'd say summer, but spring and autumn should be fine.
Winter. I've been to both and you get the feel for the place when its cold. Flown by areoflot to petersburg for a few days then overnight train to moscow for 9 days. Its great i really like the people plus the underground which will open your eyes. oh girls are nice too.
Oh i went on my own and its best to go on proper tours plus if you do go out on your own try not to look like a tourist otherwise you will be fare game. it is safe out there but keep your eyes open. If by chance you are in trouble shout fire! everyone will come to look.
