I am not sure how you get those letters. I have got plaice for 17 across.
Pla(i)ce - location is place around i for island.

Sorry - should have said 15 across - still under the influence of the Christmas spirit
I think it is Salmon because the word appears within the rest of the clue - tos(s almon)ds around it.
Another candidate for the best "red herring" of the new year?

I've just been looking for a 7-lettered word (containing AGE) which means "tilted window" (a typo for "titled widow").
