Motorcycle MOT Regs

If a machine has V rated tyres specified, would it pass the MOT test with H rated tyres?

Could do, but not if the mot inspector is doing his job properly.

as the speed limit is 70mph.....i'm sure the will, but believe they never check anyway

Probably, but you'd be a fool to run them past their rating.

No tyre shop will fit "H" rated tyres to a bike that is specified with "V" rated tyres. If "H" rated tyres were fitted it will invalidate the insurance cover. It is nothing to do with speed limits; the safe speed on all tyres comes down a lot when the bike is fully loaded. Don't even think about it.

What will happen if you try to run a tyre past its speed rating is that it will come apart at the seams - literally -due to centrifugal force.
And as Byrnesix says - it will invalidate your insurance.
